Guizhou is seeing a sharp rise in green power transactions as the province pushes forward with its clean energy transition. According to China Southern Power Grid’s Guizhou branch, green power trading volume reached 34.4 billion kWh in 2024, marking a 335% increase from the previous year. Looking ahead, 76.4 billion kWh of green electricity has already been contracted for 2025, up 169% year-on-year, setting new records and reinforcing Guizhou’s commitment to its "dual carbon" goals.
The province has made major strides in energy infrastructure, achieving full 220kV power grid coverage across all counties. This has helped integrate more renewable energy into the China Southern Power Grid while optimizing local power distribution. In 2024, Guizhou consumed 118.63 billion kWh of renewable energy, an 18.29% increase from 2023. To accommodate the variability of wind and solar power, the Guizhou Power Dispatch and Control Center has been fine-tuning hydropower and thermal power generation schedules in real time, ensuring maximum utilization of clean energy resources.
Guizhou is also emerging as a leader in new energy storage, which has helped make renewables the province’s second-largest power source. By the end of 2024, total installed renewable energy capacity exceeded 30 million kW, including 6.07 million kW of wind power, 15.11 million kW of solar power, and 630,000 kW of biomass power. By the close of the 14th Five-Year Plan, total capacity is expected to reach 42 million kW.
This transformation is being driven not only by policy support but also by a more developed market system. To provide a clearer regulatory framework for green power trading, the Guizhou Energy Administration has introduced the Interim Measures for Renewable Energy Participation in Power Market Transactions, helping to create a stable and efficient trading environment for clean energy.
